Ejemen foundation is a non-governmental and charity organization that provides benefits to victims of illness, hunger, and homelessness.
By supporting Ejemen foundation, it becomes easier to help more individuals in the society who are suffering from illness, hunger, homelessness, or other societal problems.
NGO or Non-governmental organizations are organizations independent of government authority and influence. They are non-profit entities with goals of humanitarian causes.
Volunteering is the unpaid act of an individual or group of individuals offering their time to help a non-profit organization or other community services.
Charity organizations can be supported in various ways, depending on the kind of services they offer. The common ways of supporting charitable organizations include Money, goods, and service volunteering. They can also be supported through fundraising.
Preventive health care encompasses the prevention of illness and the methods taken to decrease the burden of diseases. It also includes counseling to prevent diseases and other health problems. Preventive healthcare focuses on tackling factors that can lead to illnesses in order to curtail the burden of health problems and associated risks.
There are 102 preventive health care practices according to the U.S Preventive Services Task Force.
The common measures are
• Diabetes screening
• Cholesterol tests
• Vaccinations
• Cancer screenings
• STI screenings
Preventive health care can be divided into three levels namely, Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary prevention.
Primary prevention: primary prevention aims to avoid diseases by maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Secondary prevention: the aim of secondary prevention is to discover diseases and health problems early through diagnosis and screening.
Tertiary prevention: Tertiary prevention involves the maintenance of life skills through treatment, rehabilitation, and patient education.
There are an estimated 100 million cases of Malaria in Nigeria each year with 300,000 deaths. The mortality rate arising from Malaria and its complications in Nigeria is 0.3%.
Meningococcal meningitis is a common disease among children between the ages of 5 to 14 years. The disease has a mortality rate of up to 10%.
Cancer is a public health problem that affects Nigerians like the rest of the world. Cancer has a mortality rate of 12%, with breast cancer, cervix uteri, and prostate cancer being the most common.
According to information collected by the World Bank collection of development indicators, Nigeria has a death rate of 64% for every 100,000 people with Tuberculosis. This estimate represents the number of deaths from Hiv-negative people in the country.
Mosquito-treated nets also referred to as insecticide-treated nets are nets that are hung over a sleeping area to prevent mosquitoes from entering that area. When the net is treated, it repels mosquitoes, even killing those that land on it.
Breast cancer screening involves the process of checking a woman’s breasts for symptoms of the disease. Breast cancer screening does not prevent breast cancer but aids early detection of the disease.
Homelessness can be divided into three categories namely Chronic, Episodic, and transitional homelessness.
Chronic homelessness is the most common type of homelessness. This includes the category of people that have been homeless for more than a year. People suffering from chronic homelessness are often hindered by a mental illness or physical disability.
Transitional homelessness is another common type of homelessness that affects people going through catastrophic events. An example is an unexpected job loss or natural disaster damages.
Episodic homelessness is used to categorize people that have been homeless up to three times within a year. People who have more than 3 episodes are classified as chronically homeless.
Internally displaced persons are persons who have been forced to leave their homes but remain with the borders of their country. The displacement usually stems from situations of violence or conflicts.
Rehabilitation is often required by people who are suffering from injuries, diseases, or prolonged effects of diseases. Rehabilitation therapy offers an environment that will allow your body to heal while you regain strength.
People become homeless for various reasons. Some of the common causes of homelessness are poverty, unemployment, and life challenges. Many people become homeless when they can’t afford apartment rents.
Homelessness can affect everyone in a society but it particularly has adverse effects on children. Homelessness in early life can affect the life chances of children and their wellbeing.
Hunger is a result of underlying factors in a community or family. Some of the societal causes of hunger include poverty, conflict, seasonal changes, and Natural disasters.
Hunger in its early stages is accompanied by symptoms such as Headache, stomach rumbling, tiredness. In severe cases, hunger can result in Nausea, Depression, weight loss, and Perspiration.
Food banks accept food that are non-perishable. You can locate the nearest food bank to you and donate it to them. Monetary donations can also be made instead of food, after which that money will be put to good use.
Hunger mostly affects the vulnerable population of a country. Northeastern Nigeria suffers the most from undernutrition. This is due to disruption in service due to conflict.
Food distributors are companies that help organizations distribute food to the locations where they are most needed.
Food assistance is a program that assists families and communities in need to buy food at a subsidized rate.
The Princess Ejemen Foundation (PEF) was founded January, 2004 in Benin City, Edo State. PEF has been providing humanitarian and charitable services to thousands of Nigerians ever since.
